About Me

The great thing about having your own website is you can pretend anyone would be interested in knowing what you think is important, cool, or worth considering.

Some stuff about me:

Hometown:  Mesquite, Texas
I've lived in several other cities, but they are all in North Texas.  I've never been more than about an hour drive from my mom and sibs!

My parents:                                            All their children:
Ruth (The Mom)                                      Paul - the oldest
  Peter (please visit www.PeterMaaske.com)  Rebecca - 2nd
                                                               Deborah - 3rd (that's me!)
                                                               Sharon - 4th

I always argued that I was the "middlest" child.  That is, though Becky and I were both in the middle, I was the middle girl on top of that.  So, she could claim to be the oldest when it was just the girls - therefore, I was the "middlest"!

My animals:  Two middle-aged male kitties that I adore.  Backyard birds.  My rescue bats.

I was born in late 1967 in Dallas, Texas.  I went to public schools and was quite bored and quite alone.  I was not very social and my weird redheaded girl pasty skin and wild curls didn't help much!  :)

In high school, the things most important to me were band, orchestra and my religion (I don't care to say what it was).  Now, the most important thing to me is my spirituality (NOT the same as religion, please note).

I have a degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Economics - both from the University of North Texas.  Sounds exciting, huh?  How could someone with that education have a "Spiritual Girl" site?  Well, I do!

Some of the jobs I've held:

  • Grocery checker
  • Donut girl
  • Math tutor
  • Part-time nanny (Hi Chris, Brandy and Corey!!)
  • Algebra teacher
  • Insurance claim Customer Service
  • Bookkeeper / Loan processor
  • Marketing Consultant and modeler
  • Statistical Analyst and strategy specialist

My dream "job":  Owning a candle/incense/yoga shop near Pikes Peak in Colorado - or better yet, New Zealand.  And hopefully, it will be successful enough that I can hire help and spend most of my time biking and hiking.

But dreams are just that: dreams.  So I live for today and we'll see how things go.

Favorite stuff:

  • MOVIES:
    • Weird ones such as "Fight Club", "Trainspotting", "From Dusk til Dawn".
    • Unrealistic action such as "Die Hard".
    • Anything involving the UNdead:  "Dawn of the Dead", "SHAUN of the Dead", "28 Days Later".
    • Cutesy stuff like "Notting Hill", "Family Man"
  • FOOD:  Anything NOT normal American food, especially Greek and Japanese.
  • COLOR:  Clear blue, like a perfect sky or an ocean begging me to jump in.
  • FUN THINGS:  Adventures like skydiviing, car racing, cave exploration (went tubing in a cave in New Zealand - awesome!), jumping off a 360ft platform to swing across a canyon ( www.canyonswing.com ).
  • HOBBIES:  Texas Master Naturalist Program, Bat Rescue (see me on the list at www.batworld.org).
  • WORKOUTS:  Hiking, off-road biking, swimming, weights, skating (real skates, not blades), running (when I'm in shape).
  • MUSIC:  Just about everything except rap & opera, but even those "float my boat" every now and then.  Mostly, you'll find me listening to the likes of:  Sara Evans, Billy Joel, Metallica, Dixie Chicks, Queensryche.
  • INSTRUMENTS I PLAY:
    • Trumpet
    • Viola
    • Oboe (working on it)
    • Bass guitar (I think I'll give up on that one - my hands are too small!)
    • Want to learn piano.

Namaste: "I honor the place in you where - if you are at that place in you, and I am at that place in me - there is only one of us."
